Our manifesto

WE WILL CREATE ENDURING BEAUTY

We are here to design beautifully distinctive jewellery that will continue
to delight for a lifetime and more. We will deal fairly and respectfully with everyone
we work with. And we will protect the nature we touch upon by supporting
sustainable projects and organisations such as the WWF – and by leaving the
smallest possible footprint on the one and only planet we all share.

Our name

Kinraden

What’s in a name? To us, it’s everything we believe in. KINRADEN is an old English word for ‘kindred’ – reflecting the fundamental wisdom that we are all related on this planet. People. Animals. Plants. The living nature of wind, soil and sea. We are all one. Our kinship is real, and everything we do somehow affects the lives of others. This is the responsibility we all carry – so let’s go forward with a gentler step.

OUR CERTIFICATION

RESPONSIBLE JEWELLERY COUNCIL

All our jewellery is handcrafted from pure, reused 18 karat gold and sterling silver. To leave behind the lightest possible footprint, our method of jewellery production carries as much weight as the final piece itself. All our production is certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

We will preserve nature
and use materials already at hand or easily renewed

We will be fair
and ensure that all our dealings are transparent and open

We will reduce waste
and constantly seek circular and sustainable ways

We will create impact
and use our business to inspire positive change

WEARABLE WORKS OF ART

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add – but when there is nothing left to take away.

– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Our metals

REUSED GOLD & SILVER

It is said that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, and we couldn’t agree more. Every piece of KINRADEN jewellery has been crafted in the hand from a choice of just three materials : solid reclaimed 18 karat gold and sterling silver, combined with nearly black, sustainably sourced mpingo wood. Every design we do is an exploration of these fine materials that go so well together.

Our rocks

Mpingo, our love

To avoid the many harmful effects of deep-mined diamonds, we searched for alternatives that met our aesthetic standards. We came upon mpingo by chance – a stunning, rock-hard, nearly black wood known for its uniquely resonant qualities, long used in professional clarinets. And we fell in love. Mpingo brings out the full beauty of our gold and silver. We source all our mpingo from a WWF-protected forest in Tanzania, and worn on the skin, each diamond-cut mpingo piece will grow even more lovely with time.

EVERYTHING WE TOUCH WILL EVENTUALLY TOUCH THE LIVES OF OTHERS

This is it. And nothing we ever did was this important. To create something so beautiful it would be impossible to pass by untouched, because it reminds us of who we really are. That we are truly one, infinitely related in nature. We know enough that our innocence has gone. We must change our ways and walk ahead with a gentle step.

Our design

POETRY IN PRECISION

Minimalism, at its core, holds a kind of wild extravagance. The courage to not adorn or appease – to say no more – it holds a powerful reward of its own. Every piece of KINRADEN jewellery is an exploration of human beauty within tight creative and material constraints. Like an architect’s project, the design process begins with a basic study of body, material, and function. Curiosity intact, looking for new and timeless poetry.

Our Founder

Sarah Emilie Müllertz

At the heart of KINRADEN is founder, architect and designer Sarah Emilie Müllertz whose design philosophy and mindful sensibility define our ethos. Inspired by diverse influences – from especially modern art, Japanese architecture and Danish design tradition – her work balances innovation and heritage. She has a lifelong interest in jewellery design which she approaches almost in the manner of architecture , only in smaller scale. Read more about Sarah Müllertz here.
