STORY BEHIND THE PIECE - ISADORA RING

Every KINRADEN design begins with a dialogue between form, material, and meaning. The ISADORA ring - part of The Two Worlds Collection - embodies this philosophy in its bold yet refined composition of recycled metals and hand-cut Mpingo blackwood. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement and Oskar Schlemmer’s transcendent works, Isadora reflects both architectural precision and the warmth of organic material, brought together in harmony.

Inspiration: Bauhaus and Beyond

The Bauhaus movement sought simplicity, geometry, and the balance of form and function. These principles are visible in the Isadora ring’s alternating stripes of  luminous metal and Mpingo blackwood - a pattern that feels both timeless and contemporary. Like Schlemmer’s work exploring the body’s relationship to space, the ring plays with contrasts: wood and metal, dark and light, natural and industrial, fragility and strength.

Materials with Integrity

Responsibility lies at the heart of the Isadora ring. It is crafted from recycled sterling silver or 18K gold and adorned with Mpingo blackwood, sustainably sourced from an FSC-certified forest in Tanzania. Among the hardest and most durable woods in the world, Mpingo is polished by hand, its density allowing a flawless finish that resembles black gemstone. Each wooden inlay carries subtle variations, making every ring uniquely its own.

From Wax to Metal

The journey of the ISADORA ring begins with wax. Liquid wax is injected into silicone molds, producing delicate replicas of the design in every size. These wax models are then assembled into a central “tree,” which allows multiple rings to be cast at once. The tree is encased in a fine ceramic shell; when heated, the wax melts away, leaving behind a cavity in the precise shape of the ring. Into this hollow, molten recycled sterling silver or 18K  gold is poured, giving form and weight to the ISADORA. From this moment, the ring exists not just as an idea, but as a solid piece of jewellery.

Shaping the Stripes

The Mpingo blackwood, with its depth and durability, is prepared with the same precision. Each piece is CNC-cut slightly larger than required, then refined by hand to ensure a perfect fit within the silver foundation. The wood is carefully inlaid, secured, and shaped to achieve ISADORA’s bold striped rhythm. Finishing touches include polishing, oiling, and meticulous quality checks, ensuring the ring meets KINRADEN’s highest standards. The result is an object of striking contrasts - metal and wood, modern precision and timeless craft, innovation and responsibility woven together in one enduring design.

The ISADORA ring embodies KINRADEN’s vision of jewellery that unites art, craft, and conscience. Its graphic pattern of silver and Mpingo wood feels at once modern and eternal, resonating with the balance between humanity and nature. To wear Isadora is to carry not only a work of design but a story of responsibility, precision, and timeless beauty.

With Love,
