STORY BEHIND THE EPIECE - RESONANCE Earring

Each KINRADEN design begins with a reflection on the traces we leave behind - subtle gestures, quiet choices, and the ways our presence resonates beyond the immediate moment. The RESONANCE Earring, crafted in recycled sterling silver and FSC-certified Mpingo blackwood, explores this idea through form, movement, and material contrast.

Inspiration

Part of the Imprint Collection, the RESONANCE Earring draws inspiration from the marks we leave on the world and the ripples they create. Influenced by the transformative artistic language of Marina Abramović, the collection reflects on presence, connection, and our relationship with the natural environment.

In RESONANCE, wood and metal meet in seamless harmony - symbolising the delicate dialogue between humanity and nature. The minimalist design becomes a quiet reminder of responsibility and awareness: that even the smallest action can carry lasting impact. Through subtle movement and sculptural restraint, the earring captures the poetry of continuity - how form, like influence, unfolds outward.

From Sketch to Structure

The journey of RESONANCE begins with hand sketches examining balance, movement, and proportion. Mock-ups in wire, wax, or resin allow us to test weight distribution and behaviour, refining the geometry of both the silver structure and the wooden element.

Once the conceptual equilibrium is achieved, the design moves into advanced CAD development. Digital modelling ensures micro-accurate engineering, defining thicknesses, connection points, and tolerances that allow the Mpingo component to integrate seamlessly into the metal cradle. This stage translates intuitive design into measurable precision, safeguarding symmetry and fluid movement.

Crafting Material into Form

From the digital model, a master prototype is created through high-resolution 3D printing or precision milling. A mould is then developed, enabling the recycled sterling silver component to be cast with consistency. After casting, each piece is meticulously hand-finished - cleaned, filed, and pre-polished to establish a refined surface.

Meanwhile, the Mpingo blackwood is shaped to exact dimensions. Known for its density and durability, the material is CNC-milled into crisp, architectural forms. Though dimensionally precise at this stage, the wood retains a quiet rawness - its final depth revealed only through later finishing.

Assembly, Refinement and Final Expression

The defining moment in the creation of RESONANCE occurs during assembly, when wood and metal are carefully united. Each Mpingo element is repeatedly test-fitted to achieve perfect visual alignment and mechanical stability.

Following assembly, the earring undergoes precision refinement. Micro-finishing tools ensure a smooth transition between surfaces, preserving the sculptural clarity of the design. Final polishing reveals the chosen finish of the silver, while the Mpingo is buffed to its signature deep-black sheen. Each piece is then inspected under magnification to ensure flawless craftsmanship.

The RESONANCE Earring embodies the philosophy of the Imprint Collection - a reflection on presence, connection, and the quiet influence of our actions. From the first sketch to the final polish, its creation reveals a dialogue between architecture and nature, precision and intuition. Designed to feel sculptural, and quietly expressive, RESONANCE becomes a lasting reminder that even the smallest form can carry profound meaning.
