In conversation with Janne Villadsen
International Women’s Day - a reason, and a reminder.
Some progress arrives through policy. Other progress begins with initiative. When we spoke with Janne Villadsen at our Flagship on Møntergade, the conversation moved quickly towards action - and the difference between structural change and symbolic gestures.
As director of Nørrebro Teater, she works in a space where culture, leadership and public conversation constantly intersect. Her reflections return to a simple principle: meaningful change rarely waits for permission.
WHERE IS PROGRESS REAL - AND WHERE IS IT MERELY PERFORMATIVE?
When companies, organisations and institutions work proactively with gender equality goals and don't wait around for legislation to set the direction.
Taking an active approach is in my experience what creates results. Often because the gap between decision-makers and those involved is shortened which can create not just new conversations and new structures but also demonstrably better equality.

IF YOU COULD REDESIGN ONE SYSTEM TO IMPROVE WOMEN'S LIVES, WHAT WOULD IT BE - AND WHY?
If all women had free access to birth control, I'm sure the world would look very different. It would give women more control over their life, improve earning gaps and reduce women's health risks.
It is a privilege that far too few are afforded.
WHICH WOMAN PAST OR PRESENT - WOULD YOU MOST WANT TO SIT NEXT TO AT A DINNER PARTY AND WHY?
Someone who is equally listening and loud. I often enjoy speaking with people who have another take on the world than myself - and its even better it they have self- irony.
But to be honest, time is not what I have most of right now with my job and family, so I would also just love to have a dinner party with my close friends and have time to have a full conversation with an open end that could be ideal.

Listening to Janne, we were reminded that progress rarely arrives fully formed. It appears through smaller shifts - in leadership, in priorities, in the willingness to act before change becomes mandatory.
The conversation continues throughout the week. We invite you to return to our Journal each day to discover the next perspective.
With Love,
KINRADEN
