Yours & Ours: Rawdah Mohamed's Oslo

Oslo is where nature meets the city, and I just adore that. It reminds you to stay passionate about all that is alive. You can wander through the forest on hiking trails and have dinner in the city 30 minutes later.

The city is so walkable, and I love moving through it. You pass modern architecture, older neighbourhoods and the colourful Scandinavian houses that feel so characteristic of Oslo. Everything exists quite close together.

Below are a few of the places that, for me, capture Oslo - from the energy of Grønland to the architecture and waterfront of Bjørvika.

GRØNLAND TORG

This is the part of Oslo that always feels alive. It has this raw, real energy that you don’t always find in the city centre. Grønland has a soul, and it is the most multicultural neighbourhood in the city. I come here for the fruit and vegetables - it has some of the best produce in Oslo.

PALATE BJØRVIKA

A short walk from Grønland and suddenly everything changes. You arrive in Palate Bjørvika and it feels like entering a different Oslo.

Bjørvika sits right in the middle of this newer part of the city, surrounded by modern architecture and close to the water. This is where you find luxury and one of Oslo’s most beautiful cafés and restaurants.

I love that contrast. You can move between two completely different sides of Oslo in just a few minutes.

BARCODE

The Barcode buildings have become such a recognisable part of Oslo. Each building has its own expression, but together they create this completely new skyline along the fjord.

This is where the buildings really come to play. Different shapes, materials and heights sit next to one another, and there is always something interesting to look at as you walk through.

For me, Barcode represents the newer face of Oslo - ambitious, architectural and constantly changing.

OSLO OPERA HOUSE

The Opera House honestly has one of the best views in Oslo.

What makes it so special is that the architecture invites you onto it. You can walk straight up onto the roof and look across the fjord, the city and Bjørvika.  I especially love coming here around sunset. The water, the light and the city all meet in one place.

Oslo has so many different sides to it, and I think that is what I love most. Nature is always close, but so are culture, food and architecture.
You can move from the energy of Grønland to the waterfront of Bjørvika in minutes, and somehow both feel completely Oslo.
